I have taught PE for almost 9 years and all the time I have
been involved in teaching pupils I have never come across
such a powerful and inspirational tool as the KANDLE visual
analysis system.
I firmly believe that PE is capable of being stretched
so much more that it has been in recent times, this system
enables
that to happen. Gone are the days of didactic, teacher led
lessons which rely too heavily on tried and tested methods
of deliver – PE should encompass a whole range of teaching
styles and engage that pupils in a variety of different ways.
ICT in PE is now breaking down barriers and taking pupils
forward in exciting and explosive ways. From using a simple
digital camera to allow pupils to give each other feedback
to using PowerPoint presentations in GCSE lessons and normal
KS3/4 lessons – even for practical activities, PE is
now a whole new era.
The KANDLE visual analysis system allows you to record
and playback performances from the pupils and other sources,
then view this in a huge range of dynamic ways. Significantly
it is quick and user friendly – allowing the teacher
to set-up, record and playback with speed and confidence.
This is so important for the PE teacher who just hasn’t
got time to spend taking ages setting up and checking everything
is working properly! When I use the system now I am able
to teach a normal practical lesson, record the activity,
bring the class in, or just an individual and give them accurate
feedback within minutes, sometimes seconds!
I have experienced other visual analysis systems currently
used in PE and I strongly believe that the KANDLE system
is by far the most impressive and by comparison much easier
to access and use effectively. I have even used it in my
GCSE PE theory lessons allowing pupils to analyse the importance
of the body systems in physical movement – freezing
actions at certain points and annotating images to illustrate
how the body works in sport.
Part of my remit as an AST teacher is to help improve standards
and skills in my own school and nearly all of our 6 strong
department are using this software on a regular basis. It
is without doubt the most powerful tool available to PE teachers
at the moment and KANDLE are expanding boundaries of PE teaching
all the time.
